The China Trade Trail project
is funded by a Challenge Cost Share Program, National Park
Service, Department of the Interior. It will establish linkages
between the Forbes House Museum and the
Salem Maritime National Historic Site; together they
will tell the story of the early (Salem) and later (Forbes
House) US China Trade.
The trail will also link with other partner sites within relatively close
driving proximity to one another -- each of which contain China
Trade artifacts or collections that are unique in some manner
from those seen at the Forbes House or Salem Maritime. The items
and collections seen at each site, as well as the historic
"stories" that each property tells, will expand and enhance the
visitor's understanding of the China Trade.
